I just stumbled across this fascinating reading of Dorothy Sayers life in relation to her writing. I have long appreciated her combined sense, wit, wisdom, humor, and theological insight. Your essay illuminates the wellspring of her character and begs for readers to enact its title—a second glance at both Sayers herself and at your essay. Thank you for writing such stimulating material for further reflection upon Sayers and her significance.

This piece refreshingly grounds Sayers' Wimsey novels in the period between "Great War" and the outbreak of World War II--something certainly not all scholars of English literature are wont to do! Sayers understands and captures the period for several strata among the upper echelons of society, and Ms. Scutts has carefully portrayed this aspect of the Lord Peter mysteries. Perhaps needless to say, she has been equally insightful about the mysteries themselves. I have enjoyed this review immensely, and am delighted to have come across it. Many thanks to both author and publisher.

Hi Victoria,
This piece was in our August 2007 issue (we also included it in our print anthology, since we also think quite highly of it).
Thanks for reading,

A scholarly yet accessible commentary and analysis worthy of Sayers herself. I never get tired of reading Sayers' work, and quality "meta-Sayers" work such as this holds almost as strong an appeal for me. Thank you, Ms. Scutts. I only wish the post was dated because I don't know if it's new new or old as the hills. Can anyone tell me when this was written?
